King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard- Willoughby’s Beach

Frantic, unapologetic surf psychedelia. Not many words but lots of ‘yeahs’ and ‘whoops’. These young lads from Victoria have a musical maturity well beyond their years. Best enjoyed live, preferably in Brunswick whilst wearing tight jeans and a daggy sweater.

The Black Keys- El Camino

These guys really can do no wrong. Moving away from the two piece act was a smart move, it had done its dash and has helped them to stay relevant. The White Stripes broke up, The Black Keys acquired some new members. Taking a step away from their signature blues rock, this album has a slightly more ‘mainstream’ sound but every track is killer. Catchy and dancey with hearty servings of groove. My soundtrack of summer.

2012 Costume Institute Gala

I must say I’m quite the sucker for a good red carpet event. The Met Gala is no exception…here are some of my favourite frocks from the evening.

I love Cate, she is the thinking man’s sex symbol. Intelligent, articulate, consistently nails the red carpet look and a fab actress to boot. Here she is wearing a feathery Alexander McQueen design from the 2012 Fall collection. Not bad for a 42 year old mother of 3 eh?

Mary-Kate Olsen in a custom creation from her own label The Row. It’s nice to see her looking sophisticated rather than her usual homeless bag lady garb. Love the conservative yet classy neckline and the bag.

My absolute favourite dress of the night!! Camilla Belle is perfection in this art deco inspired Ralph Lauren gown from the Spring 2012 collection. Love the colour!

And some fails……

The dress (Dolce & Gabbana) is actually quite lovely, but the neckline is unflattering and the hair is all wrong, it looks like she just rolled out of bed!

Ah the Angelina Jolie ‘Oscars Leg’ featured quite heavily but this is just plain wrong. What’s up with that hip bone? Somebody give Anja Rubik a sandwich please!! And I don’t think there’s a need to make it quite so glaringly obvious that you aren’t wearing a bra or undies!!
